About the Eternity Puzzle
The Eternity puzzle was a tile puzzle created by Christopher Monckton and launched by the Ertl Company in June, 1999. It was marketed as being practically unsolvable, with a £1 million prize on offer for whoever could solve it within four years. The prize was paid out in October, 2000 for a winning solution arrived at by two mathematicians from Cambridge.
The puzzle was accompanied by a further three “clue” puzzles. The 10 piece Meteor, the 14 piece Delta and the 20 piece Heart.
By solving these puzzles, the position of pieces in the Eternity puzzle could be claimed.
These clues were not used by the winners and their solution actually differed from the one provided by the creator.
