The most expensive box we ever sold which was close to £1000 - the Super Cubi.

A massive 324 moves and a lot of patience to open it.

Our boxes were only purchased from the selections of the 9 master craftsmen that make them (the youngest was over 60 years old) and a few other craftsmen very close to this group. We did not offer for sale any boxes that were not produced by one of these highly respected craftsmen which are often seen on other sale platforms. They were cheaper for a reason.

JAPANESE PUZZLE BOXES

Home > Products > Japanese Puzzle Boxes

I believe I once wrote the description of another box that we sold as "a masterpiece of Japanese miniaturisation." Well at that time I hadn't seen this box!

This tiny box is so small it doesn't even reach the first step of the "sun" scale of measurement.

It is only 2 moves but amazingly one of those is a small sliding key.

At the end of the 19th century, it is said that the first Japanese puzzle box was made by Ohkawa Rygoro. Mr Nishimura, the maker of this box, was his last apprentice and sadly he died in 2009 at the age of 92.

We sold the very last box of this style that was commercially available.
