If you ever visited our shop, you will remember these creatures swimming in their little tank on the counter.
I still find it hard to believe that you just emptied the eggs out of the packet and within a couple of days you would see these prehistoric mini monsters start to grow.
As far as I remember, the Triops (or Sea Monkeys) were the only “pets” we ever sold (apart from Mexican Jumping Beans!)
What they look like
- A shield-
shaped shell covering the head - Three eyes (two compound eyes plus a simple eye)
- A long segmented body with many swimming legs
- Two thin tail filaments
They grew to about 5cms and lived for around 30-
TRIOPS (SEA MONKEYS)
Triops were one of the most unusual science kits we stocked. Tiny living fossils that could be hatched at home and whose ancestors lived more than 200 million years ago.
